The AquaFlex sensor from Truebner measures the average soil moisture along a 3 m long special measuring cable. In contrast to point-based sensors such as the SMT100, the moisture is recorded in a very large measuring volume - ideal for lawns, sports fields and golf courses.
Operation with OpenSprinkler
The AquaFlex is available in two versions for OpenSprinklers:
- RS485 Modbus (recommended): Requires this RS485 adapter for OpenSprinkler (€59). Up to 4 sensors. Digital transmission.
- Analogue 0-3V: Requires this Analog sensor board (€59).
⚠️ Important note about power supply: The AquaFlex requires up to 40 mA during measurements. Most RS485 adapters cannot provide this value. Use a 12V DC power supply with at least 3W and connect the ground to the RS485 adapter.
Installation
The AquaFlex is best installed upright. Use the spade to make a slit in the lawn, place the tape in it and press it down again. The depth should correspond to the root level. Choose a location with at least 5-10 m of grass around the sensor.
