    Hello,

I want to use an IBC container to irrigate a vegetable patch and am currently faced with the question of the best way to control a rain barrel pump.

On the one hand, there would be the possibility of switching the pump on using a switch socket, but on the other hand, a pressure switch could certainly be used, which then activates the pump when a valve is opened.

Does anyone have experience with this and can recommend which type is most reliable?

The pump I specifically have in mind is the Gardena rain barrel pump 4700/2 inox, which is available with and without an automatic function and which should fit through the standard opening of an IBC container.

    Best regards,
    Sebastian

In using an IBC container to water a vegetable patch, the method of controlling a rain barrel pump is crucial for efficient watering. The options of using a switch socket or a pressure switch both have their advantages, but reliability is key.

I’m specifically considering the Gardena rain barrel pump 4700/2 inox, and I’m torn between the automatic and manual functions. Can anyone share their experience with either of these methods and recommend the most reliable approach?

I’m especially interested in insights on ensuring the pump fits through the standard opening of an IBC container.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

In the meantime, I had decided on the automatic version in order to be as flexible as possible in the application. I haven’t installed open sprinkler yet, but I’ve already used the pump manually and in that case the automatic version is very practical.

I’m especially interested in insights on ensuring the pump fits through the standard opening of an IBC container.

I can ensure that it will not fit (at least into my IBC container), because I figured out that the DN150 opening means that the outer diameter is 150mm, not the inner, but the pump diameter is 149mm, so there are some mm missing.

I have not yet wanted to drill out the container, so my actual idea is to use a second usual rainbarrel in the same height, that is connectect to the container (keyword Hydrostatic paradox or communicating tubes) and use this to place the pump (although it seems to be easier, to just cut a bigger opening into the container 😉 ).

Btw the support has confirmed to me, that the automatic version can also be switched on and off with a smart switch.

I am definitely interested in your solution.
