Important: OpenSprinkler app (manufacturer USA) is currently not compatible with the OpenSprinklerShop firmware (manufacturer bug) - please use OpenSprinklerASB app
The US manufacturer (OpenSprinkler.com) launched a few days ago Update of its “OpenSprinkler” app published. Through one error (bug) it works in this new app version currently no longer with our extended OpenSprinklerShop firmware. According to the manufacturer, this is not intentional, but a bug, the is resolved – but that can still happen take some time.
The solution is simple: For devices with our firmware, use the “OpenSprinklerASB” app – free for Android and iOS. So everything works as usual.

No worries: Your controller, your programs and your settings are not affected. It is exclusively the app on your smartphone. A firmware change is not necessary.
What happened?
There are two apps and two firmware lines:

So far it's been straightforward: Both apps worked with both firmware variants, because both use the same communication interface (OpenThings Framework / OpenSprinkler API).
With the latest update of the US manufacturer’s “OpenSprinkler” app This is no longer the case: This app version recognizes our OpenSprinklerShop firmware no longer correct and refuses the connection or parts of the operation.
Am I affected?
You are affected if both applies:
- It runs on your controller OpenSprinklerShop firmware (e.g. with Analog Sensor Board, zone groups, MCP, cloud token or similar), and
- you've been controlling it with this so far “OpenSprinkler” app (manufacturer USA).
You are not affected if you already have the OpenSprinklerASB app use or the controller via the Web interface in the browser service.
Why is this happening?
Our OpenSprinklerShop firmware is a independent, extended branch the original firmware with numerous additional functions (analog sensor API, zone grouping, new scheduler, cloud access via Openthings cloud token, MCP server and much more). This also includes one own version numbering and a extended functionality of the interface.
The apps recognize a controller based on what it reports Firmware and hardware version. In the new update of the US app the Firmware detection changed incorrectly: This will make our OpenSprinklerShop firmware accidentally no longer recognized as compatible, so that the app refuses the connection or parts of the operation.
That is no malfunction of your device and no intentional blocking, but one Error in the US app. The manufacturer has confirmed that the Bug is fixed; Until the fix is available, it can still take time. We have that no influence – however, we provide you with a consistently compatible alternative with the OpenSprinklerASB app.
The solution: the OpenSprinklerASB app
The OpenSprinklerASB app is maintained by us together with the OpenSprinklerShop firmware and is therefore always compatible – with all advanced functions.
This is how you do it:
- Install that OpenSprinklerASB app:
- iOS (Apple App Store): https://apps.apple.com/de/app/opensprinklerasb/id6451155173
- Android (Google Play): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.OpenSprinklerShop.sprinklers
- Open the app and add your controller – with the same access data as before (local IP address or Openthings cloud token, including device password).
- Done – all programs, zones and settings are unchanged.
The app is backwards compatible: It still works with Original controllers and the original firmware.
Good to know
- Your data will be retained. The change only affects the app, not the controller.
- No firmware downgrade necessary – please play not the original firmware just to continue using the old app; you would lose all additional functions.
- Web interface as an alternative: You can also use your controller directly in the at any time Browser (local IP address or cloud access).
- If you want to stay with the US app: This works current reliable only with the Original firmware from OpenSprinkler.com. As soon as the manufacturer has fixed the bug, our firmware should also be recognized again.
