OpenSprinkler Pro is the new complete solution for smart irrigation control based on the powerful OpenSprinkler Upgrade Board. The new housing turns the previous upgrade board into a fully-fledged, immediately usable irrigation controller for indoor and protected outdoor areas. The OpenSprinkler Pro combines state-of-the-art hardware with the proven OpenSprinkler firmware and offers flexible, web-based control for gardens, lawns, raised beds, greenhouses and professional irrigation systems.
A modern ESP32-C5 works at the heart, depending on the firmware version WiFi 6, BLE, Zigbee (for Ethernet variant, as hub/client) and Matter (experimental) supported. This makes the OpenSprinkler Pro not only a classic irrigation controller, but also a future-proof platform for networked garden and smart home applications. It is conveniently controlled via the web interface, the OpenSprinkler app or directly on the device using the OLED display and 3 buttons.
Hardware variants
The OpenSprinkler Pro is available in three hardware variants – suitable for every area of application:
- AC – for standard irrigation valves with 24 V AC voltage (the most common variant)
- DC – for DC valves (9-24 V DC), e.g. B. in 12 V systems or when operated via battery/solar, but also compatible with 24VAC solenoid valves!
- Latch – for latch valves (pulse solenoid valves) that only require a short current pulse to open and close. Ideal for particularly energy-saving installations, e.g. B. with battery or solar operation. (9V pulse coils)
Functional description
1. Control irrigation intelligently
The OpenSprinkler Pro controls 8 irrigation zones as standard and can be expanded to up to 72 zones using an expander. Schedules, start times, run times, sequential groups and parallel operation can be flexibly configured.
2. Weather based adjustment
Irrigation can be automatically adjusted based on weather data. Among other things, Zimmerman, ETo and manual percent adjustment are supported. In addition, rain, temperature and other weather restrictions can be set to save water and supply plants as needed.
3. Sensor integration
Two sensor inputs enable the connection of rain sensors, soil moisture sensors, flow sensors or program switches. In addition, the platform also supports BLE sensors, MQTT sensors, remote sensors and RS485/Modbus sensors (via adapter)
4. Flow and error monitoring
With the flow sensor connected, the OpenSprinkler Pro detects unusual conditions such as no flow, pipe break, undercurrent or overcurrent. This means that defects, cable problems or leaks can be detected early.
5. App, web and remote access
The complete operation takes place locally in the browser or via OpenSprinklerASB App on smartphone, tablet and desktop. For the OpenSprinkler Pro the OpenSprinklerASB App recommended - it supports all Pro features such as BLE sensors, Zigbee and advanced statistics. Secure remote access without complicated port forwarding is also possible via OpenThings Cloud (OTC).
6. Smart home and cloud integration
The OpenSprinkler Pro supports MQTT, email notifications, IFTTT, InfluxDB and - depending on the variant - ESP RainMaker, Zigbee (only for Ethernet) or Matter (experimental). This means irrigation can be easily integrated into existing smart home and monitoring systems.
7. OTA updates and modern firmware platform
Firmware updates can be easily installed over the air via the web interface. The ESP32-C5 platform offers high performance, 8 MB PSRAM, 16 MB Flash and modern security and network functions.
8. 100% compatible
Regardless of whether it is a zone expander, analog sensor board, RS485 interface or network adapter (W5500) – everything also fits the OpenSprinkler Pro. The API is also fully compatible and significantly expanded.

Optional: External antenna (+€20)
For difficult radio conditions - for example when installed in a metal distribution cabinet, in the basement or at a greater distance from the WLAN router - we optionally offer this device with a connection for a external antenna to. To do this, simply select the option “External antenna” on this page (surcharge €20, can be combined with all variants).
- This comes instead of the internal circuit board antenna U version of the ESP32 radio module U.FL/IPEX antenna connector for use.
- A suitable one Antenna cable (Pigtail, U.FL to SMA) is included in delivery.
- The Antenna itself is not included and can be purchased separately - you simply use a commercially available SMA WLAN antenna of your choice.
This allows you to place the antenna freely outside the housing and significantly improve the WLAN range.
